@wferrer: Thanks. Although the W3 has it's problems it does have it's place and I'd prefer not to lug the 600D's around a live steam track. The Golden Gate Live Steamers are having their Summer meet this coming weekend and I'll take more shots there. FWIW Mike's a VERY well known photographer in the Live Steam world, and took the picture of me on this locomotive that made the cover of Live Steam Magazine about 6 months ago, and yes he shoots 3D too with W1.
@3DVisionRulz: That is a VERY common comment, the effect is sometimes called "Toyification" or "Lilipucification" and is part of the magic and appeal of aerial stereo. What's happening here is normally your eyes are about 3.5 inches apart and you see your best depth at about 9 feet. I spread those "eyes" to several hundred feet and look at something a mile away. Your visual cortex "sees" this image and thinks it's only 9 feet away so the ONLY thing it can be is a model.
Looks like a shot of an N-scale train layout or something. Wow...
Love this series of shots - very, very cool!
@alex: Thanks! Compliments from the other well know contributors are extra special. I just posted the other good shot from this run. Even though the capitol building isn't in it I think it's better shot of the city. "Seeing" that day was pretty good, we were flying at 1100 ft and the center of most of these was at about 1 mile. I was shooting with the 600D/t3i using the 55-250 "kit lens" racked to about 75. ASA400 1/800 F5.6. It was about 80F up where we were and that was making it pretty bouncy. It was rough enough I had to turn off the IS on the lens, it was going nuts trying keep the image stable.
Thanks for all the recent compliments. I enjoy being able to share a different view of the world.
Always planned to get there, not yet, thanks to bring it here in 3d!
Ahh, stereoscopic window violation is pretty strong here. Please push the pic back. The interaxial could've been smaller.
This one is nice, but still I'd push it a bit back into the window.
This looks nice. Was it taken through the window? The colors a sort of bleak.
You're quite welcome Dave - very interesting images. Looking forward to seeing more!
Imagine my suprise when I checked in this morning! Thanks for the honor. Even though I shoot ground based work, the aerial hyper IS my passion. I'll dig up some more and post them. For those that like these, there are 6 more in the 2012 NSA Photo Competition folder, named 1-AugustD through 6-AugustD. FYI my wife and I are BOTH pilots, so she's flying the Cessna 182 while I'm taking these pictures. These are all sIngle camera and roughly 200 feet apart. -- Dave August
Please make comments on the new layout here: http://www.3dvisionlive.com/content/new-photo-page-layout. Don't want to take the focus off Dave's excellent images. Thanks.
The previous design had to share that space with other galleries and now has it all dedicated to latest uploads, so they do get more play - not less. We are testing the larger thumbnail size, and may roll it back to the old size if that's the consensus. As for the bit about the images of women being featured - look at their view numbers in general on the site and you will understand why many are chosen. That said: Rate and comment on the images you like - it will help guide us in making decisions on what content to highlight going forward. Thank-you for your comments.
And now, because of the bigger thumbnails they get lost even faster because there are fewer on the first page. Personaly I'd rather smaller thumbnails and more images on the first page. I can also personlay atest to the fact that after an image leaves the first page the number of views drops dramatically. And although you don't think "one click" is a much of a drill down, it is... especially if you have no idea if the content there has changed. Also with out rotating the thumbnal icons for the Staff/Awards you are essentially giving a special award to those people... and I did think it was somewhat sexist that ALL the thubnail icons were of women, I guess we know who you think your target audience is.
Interesting - many people were complaining that images got lost too quickly. These changes were made to resolve this issue. I ask that you don't rush to judgment on it as we're still refining it. If the consensus warrants we can look at making Awards a permanent gallery on the front page - in its old format. The idea, currently, is to make the thumbs for the latest uploads bigger and give them more room. To see all the latest awards you just have to make one click. Is this really too much "drill down". Please let me know. Thanks for your comments.
Re: The new site layout. I guess change was inevatible, but I preferd the old layout. Personaly I dislike having to "drill down" to see staff picks or awards. Part of the proble with this is the "Icon Picture" you use isn't even the latest staff pick or award so we have NO idea if things have changed.I know your reasoning, I read al lthe comments about this before, but feel this is NOT the way to go. As they say "It wasn't broken so whay did you fix it".
Thanks Media3D. For me If it anint hyper, it aint 3D and I LOVE to align for forward of the window. Although I mostly shoot my ground work with twined Canon PRO1's on a 4.5 I/A this was done with twined Nikon D500's which are on a 6 inch I/A as is the Redbull F1. I've got some shots from the Skip Barber racing school at Laguna Seca that I'll post later today.
car shots are difficult but youve done well to show the beauty of this finely crafted automobile. The sheen and shadows work very well here. I dont care for most car shots in 3d as they are so overly shiny definition is lost in the glare. This car is beast and if it were an animal i would say it be a Unicorn.
I didn't do it! Nobody saw me do it! You can't prove anything!!
Thanks for the honor of a Bronze award. I'm looking forward to talking to a few of you at 3D-CON this weekend.
